Iraq: Female suicide bomber kills several in Baquba

without comments

ADNKronos:

A woman suicide bomber on Monday detonated her explosives vest in a market in the central Iraqi city of Baquba killing and wounding dozens, the Voices of Iraq news agency reported, citing police.

(…) Eleven of the 20 suicide bombings in Diyala this year have been carried out by women, Voices of Iraq said, quoting a report in the New York Times on Saturday.

This use of women is very interesting, specially considering they don’t have any promise for the after-world as men do.

Pakistan: pro-Taliban militias establish Sharia courts

with 2 comments

From ADNKronos:

Pro-Taliban militants in Pakistan have established Sharia or Islamic courts in the Bajaur tribal region which borders Afghanistan. A large number of people are believed to be waiting to use the courts established by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in order to resolve disputes instead of waiting for action by the tribal administration. The courts have been functioning for a couple of weeks in the Sewai area, about 20 kilometres northwest of Khar, the regional headquarters of Bajaur tribal region.

About two dozen ulema or Muslim legal scholars have been designated as Qazis or judges ruling in accordance with Sharia or Islamic religious law. “We have set up the courts in accordance with people’s wishes,” said Taliban spokesman Maulvi Umar, adding that people were fed up with the previous legal system. He said that the Qazis were “competent scholars well versed in Islamic jurisprudence”.

This is published the same day that it’s also published that Pakistani Talibans have vowed to continue Jihad against Westerners in the country.

I’m afraid that when the time comes, the inhabitants will simply go out, and welcome the Taliban“:

According to sources in Pakistan’s academic circles, the worse prospects become for the future of young people and the more illiteracy there is, the more young men will be willing to volunteer to become jihadists. Indeed, on a recent morning in Akora Khattak, a dusty little town 29 miles to the southeast of Peshawar, a group of nine-year-olds from the Waziristan tribal area were standing outside in the summer heat at the infamous Darul Uloom Haqqania madrasa, which in Pakistan is also known as the “University of Jihad.” They call out to passersby with a childlike mixture of pride and defiance: “We are Taliban! We are mujahedin! “We are al-Qaida!”

Some 4,000 students are instructed here free of charge and, on graduation, are awarded government-recognized qualifications. It’s not clear where the money comes from to support the school. The training its students receive is, on the other hand, very clear. The madrasa, run by Sami ul-Haq — often referred to as the “Father of the Taliban” — is seen as an incubator of radical Islamists.

That University of Jihad, that is, the Darul Uloom Haqqania madrassa is where the Deobandi sect was founded. Much more fundamentalist than Wahabbies, it controls actually more than 600 mosques in Britain, 17 of 26 Muslim seminaries and teaches 80% of home-trained clerics in the country. They were also the group behind the London mega-mosque and pursue the Islamic triumph over the rest of the “enemies of Islam”.

UN worker murdered in Somalia

without comments

I wrote the other day about Al-Qaeda’s safe havens to train terrorists. One of them is Somalia where Jihadist murderers have assasined Osman Ali Ahmed, the head of the UN Development Programme in Somalia, after attending evening prayers in the mosque in Bulohube. His son and nd another man were also wounded in the incident, the Associated Press news agency reports.

The shooting came a day after an explosion in the capital reportedly killed a Somali official, his wife and four others.

US operation to remove Iraqi uranium stockpile

without comments

From FOXNews:

The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein’s nuclear program — a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium — reached a Canadian port Saturday to complete a secret U.S. operation that included a two-week airlift from Baghdad and a ship voyage crossing two oceans.

The removal of 550 metric tons of “yellowcake” — the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment — was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam’s nuclear legacy. It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions.

What is now left is the final and complicated push to clean up the remaining radioactive debris at the former Tuwaitha nuclear complex about 12 miles (19 kilometers) south of Baghdad — using teams that include Iraqi experts recently trained in the Chernobyl fallout zone in Ukraine.

“Everyone is very happy to have this safely out of Iraq,” said a senior U.S. official who outlined the nearly three-month operation to The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

While yellowcake alone is not considered potent enough for a so-called “dirty bomb” — a conventional explosive that disperses radioactive material — it could stir widespread panic if incorporated in a blast. Yellowcake also can be enriched for use in reactors and, at higher levels, nuclear weapons using sophisticated equipment.

Social movement against child brides in Yemen

with one comment

Of course, very quietly done, but it’s there nonetheless:

One morning last month, Arwa Abdu Muhammad Ali walked out of her husband’s house here and ran to a local hospital, where she complained that he had been beating and sexually abusing her for eight months.

That alone would be surprising in Yemen, a deeply conservative Arab society where family disputes tend to be solved privately. What made it even more unusual was that Arwa was 9 years old.

Within days, Arwa had become a celebrity in Yemen, where child marriage is common but has rarely been exposed in public. She was the second child bride to come forward in less than a month; in April, a 10-year-old named Nujood Ali had gone by herself to a courthouse to demand a divorce, generating a landmark legal case.

Together, the two girls’ stories have helped spur a movement to put an end to child marriage, which is increasingly seen as a crucial aspect of the cycle of poverty in Yemen and other developing countries. Pulled out of school and forced to have children before their bodies are ready, many rural Yemeni women end up illiterate and with serious health problems. Their babies are often stunted, too.

Meanwhile in Saudi Arabia, a marriage official has defended the practice:

“You can have a marriage contract even with a 1-year-old girl, not to mention a girl of 9, 7 or 8,” he said. “But is the girl ready for sex or not?” What is the appropriate age for sex for the first time? This varies according to environment and tradition,” al-Mu’bi said.

Disgusting.

A question of identity

without comments

Two videos were posted on YouTube. Both videos happened to be very sensible to Islam. A woman in them claimed to be Doris Ulfkotte, German criminologist Udo UIlfkotte’s wife. In very few hours, they were watched 140.000 times and commented 4.500 times. So Mr and Mrs Ulfkotte receive a considerable amount of death threats and are under police supervision. No one has asked for forgiveness to this couple, after dozens of Muslims have sworn to pursue them till they are killed.

The alleged culprits of this video have been identified (or so the police thinks): a 22-year-old man and his friend, aged 23, both of them of Turkish origins and from Gelsenkirchen. Both of them have admitted the crimes. But, hours after that, they were freed and have to live under police protection too.

UK: Schoolboys punished with detention for refusing to pray to Allah

without comments

Terrible news: this is dihmmitude in all its extent:

One parent, Sharon Luinen, said: “This isn’t right, it’s taking things too far. “I understand that they have to learn about other religions. I can live with that but it is taking it a step too far to be punished because they wouldn’t join in Muslim prayer. “Making them pray to Allah, who isn’t who they worship, is wrong and what got me is that they were told they were being disrespectful. “I don’t want this to look as if I have a problem with the school because I am generally very happy with it.”

Another parent Karen Williams said: “I am absolutely furious my daughter was made to take part in it and I don’t find it acceptable. “I haven’t got a problem with them teaching my child other religions and a small amount of information doesn’t do any harm. “But not only did they have to pray, the teacher had gone into the class and made them watch a short film and then said ‘we are now going out to pray to Allah’.

Via The Midnight Sun (read entire post) and MK’s views:

Forget Muslims, can you imagine the uproar from these leftist scumbags if Muslim or non-Christian children were forced to attend Bible studies.

Yes, I can.

EU: imitating the Great Chinese Wall for internet?

without comments

Brussels, 04 July 2008 — Amendments to the European Telecommunications directive being rushed through the European Parliament propose a “Soviet internet” where software publishers and internet service providers watch traffic and data for Hollywood. Software and services that run on the internet would have to ask for permission of the regulators.

Some amendments to the European Telecommunications directive allow administrative authorities in each Member State to define which are the authorised software applications for the internet. Parts of the directive should be implemented by the member states through requiring specific “technical features” in electronic communications networks. Live-analysis and filtering compose a pre-requisite for a “Soviet style” censorship environment.

Several committees suggested massive changes to an over complex Commission proposal. The committee process was hijacked by vested interests. All amendments of at times questionable quality lack a legal impact analysis and sufficient examination. Immature propositions risk to create an administrative burden and stifle internet innovation. Overloaded and confused by hundreds of amendments the lobby sets MEPs under pressure to agree on a poor compromise before the summer break. All amendments need more thoughtful review so that a mature text may be presented to the plenary and MEPs fully understand what they cast their vote on in the committee.

Benjamin Henrion, FFII representative in Brussels, rings the alarm bell: “Tomorrow, popular software applications like Skype or even Firefox might be declared illegal in Europe if they are not certified by an administrative authority. This is compromising the whole open development of the internet as we know it today. Once the Soviet Union required the registration of all typewriters and printing devices with the authorities.

Canadian anti-freedom of speech: More cases ignored by MSM

with 4 comments

BCF:

Few newspapers outside Alberta have reported the story (about Mr. Boissoin, more here). Yet it is a story of national importance. It involves a government agency penalizing a person financially for commenting on matters of public interest and seeking to make him a pariah in his community. Worse, it involves a government agency stripping a Canadian citizen of his freedom to speak his mind. That government agency, moreover, is a human rights commission, and so has siblings all across the country.

(…) The case of Stephen Boissoin is not the only case being ignored by main-stream media. Peace, Earth and Justice News, an online journal, has been harassed by the BC Human Rights Commission. A complaint against Catholic Insight magazine was only recently dropped by the Canadian Human Rights Commission, after costing the magazine $20,000. The mayor and town counsellors of Truro have been frogmarched into sensitivity training by the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. This case, having to do with the town’s refusal to fly a gay pride flag and the mayor’s comments on the matter, is particularly important, for the commission has usurped both the prerogative of Truro’s elected officials to set policy and the responsibility of Truro’s citizens to discipline—or not—those officials, as they see fit. No doubt this bit of meddling will boost our politicians’ resolve to speak to us candidly.

(…) It might be that Canadians would be outraged by the remedy issued in the Stephen Boissoin case if they knew of it, but it is also possible that Canadians don’t much care. The shallow and sporadic coverage assaults on freedom of expression get in the main-stream media could well reflect accurately the level of concern Canadians have for this issue. After all, censorship is nothing new in Canada. Group defamation laws appeared in this country as early as the 1930s. Maybe we’re used to it. Maybe most of us accept it.

Stephen Boissoin’s blog.

The Turkish gang which killed only non-Muslims

with 2 comments

According to Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak, Turkish police has terminated a criminal gang which used to kidnap old non-Muslim people, submit them to torture, obtain by force their houses’ proprietor’s documents and then kill them all. They have already killed three persons.

Thirty people, among others two doctors and the Director of the office of proprietor documents have been detained as suspects.

The police department of Istambul have launched an investigation after the corpse of 93-year-old Armenian, Vanda Ayasli Esen was found. 20 days before she had given away her house.

(…) The new investigation has shown that the gang’s behaviour began by infiltrating the entourage of the victims appearing as a servant. The gang kidnapped their victims then and obliged them to sign a transfer of proprietor’s rights to the members of the gang. After they obtained the demanded signatures, the gang murdered the old people and buried their corpse. The total value of the stolen property is near $30 million.

The driver has confessed he and his brothers killed two of them, while the third was left in a shut room to die without water nor meals.

NYPD detectives go undercover to penetrate Jihadi ring… in NYC

without comments

From NY Daily News via Weasel Zippers:

A young undercover city detective spent four years in the shadowy world of terrorist wanna-bes – taking part in jihadist discussions and training in parks in the dead of night – to get a handle on the homegrown threat.

At great personal risk, he participated in everything from prayers at a mosque to martial arts training under cover of darkness to watching jihadist videos, with many of the activities laced with talk of killing, according to a source familiar with the undercover’s investigations.

His experiences paint a vivid portrait of the potential for local terror. While the picture is in no way indicative of the city’s Muslim population as a whole, it provides insight into its most radical element.

This proves once again the peace inspired on believers by some mosques…
