Spain: Doctors Remake Clitoris to Women who had suffered FGM

with one comment

Two women have recovered the sensibility in their genitalia two months after being operated of a clitoris’ reconstruction in the Instituto Dexeus by the Doctor Pere Barri Soldevilla, the doctor in charge of the “Program of Genital Reconstruction after FGM” of this center.

Both patients, of African origin and who live in Spain nowawdays, have achieved an satisfactory anatomical result in their clitoris and thave recovered its sensibility, although it’s early to evaluate their answer to sexual stimulation, as the Instituto Dexeus has explained in a communiqué.

Both of them suffered the FGM when they were 1 year-old and afterwards, they came to live in Spain. Actually, other ten women have applied to be operated in the same Program.

Reconstruyen el clítoris a dos mujeres a las que habían practicado la ablación – 20minutos.es.

Two things:

  1. not all cases of FGM can be operated, regarding what the article say about the procedure.
  2. the good news will be when we are told that this barbaric practice is abandoned. This procedure to operate them, can reduce their problems, specially regarding sexual intercourse. But the psycological problems of having being held at 1-year-old to have part of the clitoris cut, as well as those originated by the physical ones (problems to urinate, haemorrhages and possible infections at the moment of suffering FGM) are life-time).

Linked news: A right to asylum?

It wasn’t until Traore came to the United States eight years ago that she learned that female genital mutilation has been condemned the world over as a human rights abuse. Now that she’s here – she has been living in Maryland since 2000 – she doesn’t want to go back.

Traore’s fight against deportation – her student visa expired in 2003 – has put her at the center of a growing dispute between rights groups and the Bush administration over whether victims of the practice also known as female circumcision, or female genital cutting, qualify for asylum here.

Good debate… but I’m going to make another question: why someone who is doing nothing bad as this woman is denied asylum and a man like Abu Qutada is not deported? Where is the logic?

Tanzania albinos targeted again

with 2 comments

Tanzanian police say another albino man has been murdered – the 26th victim in the country in under a year.

The attackers reportedly severed the man’s right foot and genitalia. His wife, also an albino, was also injured.

Witchdoctors want the parts for potions they say make people rich, reports BBC correspondent Vicky Ntetema.

In an undercover report last week, she was offered albino body parts by witchdoctors, who said their clients included police officers.

Terrible news…Just plainly terrible…

Italy’s center-right defends state of emergency over immigration

without comments

Italy’s center-right government defended itself Sunday from criticism of a so-called state of emergency enacted this week to crack down on illegal immigration.

The government extended measures already in place in the southern regions of Puglia, Sicily and Calabria to the whole country Friday. The measures give authorities the ability to more easily overcome bureaucracy, for example, to set up new immigrant detention centers.
Political opponents and human rights groups have criticized the government in recent months, saying some of the measures are xenophobic and anti-immigrant _ including plans to fingerprint Roma, or Gypsies.
The Vatican official who oversees the pope’s migrant council, the Rev. Agostino Marchetto, called on the government to respect human rights.
Interior Ministry official Alfredo Mantovano, however, said the measures enacted Friday were the same as ones that have been approved in previous years and that they were necessary, for example, to create new immigration detention centers, according to an interview published Sunday in Milan daily Corriere della Sera.

Corriere also reported that another 10 centers to identify and expel illegal immigrants would be set up in Italy as a result of the emergency declaration, doubling the current number.
Roberto Calderoli, a minister in Premier Silvio Berlusconi’s government, said the declaration gives officials the flexibility they need to deal with illegal immigration.

Italy’s center-right defends state of emergency over immigration.

The problem with expelling illegal immigrants is where to expel them.

And I really believe that an state of emergency is plainly excessive, specially because that state is for catastrophes, such as earthquakes or great fires. With this system, the people who are really profiting from this trade are not arrested and those are the ones who should be investigated.

Anyway, they haven’t openly determined what the reasons for the state of emergency truly are. “Dealing with illegal immigration” is truly vague…

2 Bombs explode in Turkey, 16 people killed

“There appears to be a link with the separatist organization. We are working on that. We hope to get a result at the first opportunity,” Guler told reporters.

A pro-Kurdish news agency, Firat, reported that a Kurdish rebel leader said the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, did not carry out the bombing.

“The Kurdish freedom movement has nothing to do with this event, this cannot be linked to the PKK,” Firat quoted the leader, Zubeyir Aydar, as saying. “We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and to the Turkish people.

New York Jihad Birthday Invitations Warn of Terror Threat In Lower Manhattan

with one comment

NYPD detectives are investigating a chilling new terror threat – a series of cards from a “New York Jihad” that look like birthday-party invitations but warn of bombs in lower Manhattan this summer, The Post has learned.

The cards were mailed last week to the homes of seven city residents, including former Fox News television producer Kelley Vick and a person in the 26th Police Precinct, which covers West Harlem, according to Vick and police sources.

The card reads: “Bombs! Bombs! Bombs! Lower Manhattan. July, August, September. New York Jihad.”

Vick, a news producer who left Fox in early July, got the creepy mailing Thursday. She said it arrived at her Chelsea building but did not list her apartment number and had no return address. She went to police on Friday.

“It says, ‘You’re invited to a party, so put on a happy face,’ ” she said. “There were faces of an elephant, a monkey, like cartoon animals.

“Then you open the card, and inside is a piece of periwinkle paper and space for the date and time. That’s where it says, ‘Bombs! Bombs! Bombs!’ in fancy type.

“My name is printed on the envelope. The stamp is green with a heart. Everything about it is like a cute little party invitation. It’s really weird.”

She said the postmark showed it had been sent Wednesday from Brooklyn.
