Do British Muslims Want Shari’a? – Islamist Watch Blog

with one comment

Do British Muslims Want Shari’a? – Islamist Watch Blog. A very interesting note, pointing out the different views among UK Muslims…

While there are several polls indicating UK Muslims favour the introduction of Sharia Law, others suggest that:

Our survey was made easier by Muslim debate over the Williams affair. The overwhelming majority of our sample — we estimate a minimum of 65% — brusquely repudiated the imposition of Shari’a in Britain and even expressed resentment at the interference of individuals like the archbishop in British Muslim affairs.

Pakistani Female Scientist To Face Terrorism Charges In New York

without comments

A U.S. educated Pakistani female scientist, who is accused of being an al-Qaeda operative, will appear in a New York court on Tuesday to face terrorism charges, said US officials.

Aafia Siddiqui, who was extradited from Afghanistan, arrived in New York on Monday morning. She will be presented before a United States Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, said officials.

U.S. prosecutors said that Siddiqui was detained by the local security forces in Afghanistan three weeks ago and was then transferred to the Americans. They said that she was carrying documents about how to make explosives and details of various US landmarks when she was arrested.

She is also accused of attempting to kill US officers when they visited her in detention on 18 July. The FBI statement says that she attempted to shoot the US officials with an automatic weapon she had snatched from them during the questioning session. However, she was overpowered after being shot in the chest by the US officials, the statement added.

More in Times OnLine: While her sister considers a “mockery” that after five years in detention she has been discovered in Afghanistan, and accuses US authorities of abusing their power and torturing “an innocent woman without committing any crime“, US officials have insisted that they did not know where she was till she was arrested by Afghan police. Prosecutors said that she had numerous documents in her handbag about the “creation of explosives, chemical weapons and other weapons” and also documents about US military assets and excerpts from The Anarchist Arsenal.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Venezuela

without comments

The Iranian regime’s Air and Space Organization, part of its Ministry of Defense, along with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) unit responsible for the missiles program, are collaborating extensively and secretly in the field of missile technology transfer to Venezuela. The IRGC’s commanders even attended the June 2008 Venezuelan military exercise.

During the past 5 years, the Iranian regime has established extensive military and political relations with Venezuela, with its investments in that country totaling roughly 10 billion dollar. Mullahs’ former president, Mohammad Khatami, and their current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have each traveled to Venezuela twice, while the Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez, has also reciprocated with his own trips to Tehran on a number of occasions.

Lawyers: Daughter’s murder not ‘honor killing

with 2 comments

Christian (the detective) testified that Rashid confessed, through an interpreter, to killing Kanwal during questioning at the police department the night her body was found on the floor of her bedroom. Rashid had told police he is Muslim and that extramarital affairs and divorce are against his religion. That’s why he killed her, according to a Clayton County arrest warrant.

He said, ‘God will protect me, God is watching me, I strangled my daughter, I killed her,’” Christian testified Tuesday.

Previous courtroom statements indicate Rashid to be a devout Muslim. Long got permission last month for Rashid to continue a special diet in the jail for Muslims.

But outside the courtroom, Begner and Long downplayed the religious aspect of the alleged crime.

“It’s unfortunate that ‘honor killing’ has come out as a catch phrase for this crime,” Long said. “It does a disservice to this man, his family and culture. It is being used loosely without the full aspect of what’s going on in this case.”

So, let me see if I understand this: they are not calling it what it is because it can defame his culture? They would not dare calling it “honor killing” because it can defame his family? Wouldn’t it be possible for his culture to change and end this “aspect” which defames it so much? Or is it a so important aspect of that culture that it can’t be modified at all?

Spain to hear Tibetan lawsuit against Chinese leaders

without comments

Spain’s top criminal court agreed Tuesday to hear a lawsuit from Tibetan rights groups that accuses Chinese leaders of genocide in connection with the unrest that erupted in the region in March.

The suit was filed on July 9 against seven Chinese leaders, including Defence Minister Liang Guanglie, by the Tibet Support Committee and two other Tibetan groups.

It was admitted under the principle of “universal competence” adopted by the Spanish judiciary in 2005 and under which Spanish courts can hear cases of genocide and crimes against humanity wherever they occur and whatever the nationality of the defendant.

Spain’s National Court, which handles crimes against humanity and genocide, said it “accepts the competence of Spanish jurisdiction to investigate the reported events.”

Rwanda accuses France of genocide

with one comment

Rwanda has accused senior French officials of involvement in its 1994 genocide and called for them to be put on trial.

Among those named in a report by a Rwandan investigation commission released on Tuesday are Dominique de Villepin, former French prime minister, and Francois Mitterrand, France’s former president.

The latest allegations from Kigali came with the publication of the report by an independent Rwandan commission set up to investigate France’s role in the bloodshed.

“The French support was of a political, military, diplomatic and logistic nature,” the report said.

Considering the gravity of the alleged facts, the Rwandan government asks competent authorities to undertake all necessary actions to bring the accused French political and military leaders to answer for their acts before justice.”

(…) others listed include Alain Juppe, a former foreign minister who is also a senior figure in the party of Nicolas Sarkozy, the current president, and Edouard Balladur, a former prime minister. Another suspect is Hubert Vedrine who, like Balladur, is a senior politician.

Al Jazeera English – Africa – Rwanda accuses France of genocide.

We will see what is the result of this accusation. Mitterand is already dead, but will we see a formal indictment of these guys before the International Criminal Court?

France: Muslim school “in danger of disappearance” asks the State for positive discrimination

with 2 comments

In the great hall of access to the school-high-school Réussite in Auvervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis), a representative of the school receive the parents with the inscripctions “Good year 1429″ written in a wall. Veiled women hurry from one place to another. The apparent calm does not hide the fact that the institution, the first of its class to be opened in France in 2001, is menaced.

The cause is the financial disaster of this private school: its debt has arisen to 361,000€. The institution has not been able to pay the last two months of salary to its teachers.

The school/high-school, which proposes an identical teaching program to the one taught in the public institutions, except for the one (non-compulsory) hour of Islamic teachings, has wanted to enter in a contract with the State during 5 years, as the Law permits. With this regime, the school would receive public finances from the Education Ministry to pay the 25 teachers. But during these 7 years, they haven’t received any fund, according to Dhaou Meskine, the imam of Clichy-sur-Bois, and founder of the school.

According to the Créteuil rectorate, the responsibles of the stablishment have not fulfilled all the conditions stablished by the law. The school would not be able to have those benefits more than 5 years. “Impossible!” says the imam who has already spent all the possible earnings, from the quantities giving by believers in mosques to the price payed by the parents. The latter have seen the price rise from 1,500€ to 2,000€ by yar, when the normal price in private schools is betwen 600€ to 1,000€.

The stablishment is seeing also how a lot of students (nearly the third of them) do not return, as Youseef Riahl, the main counsellor of Education, explains.

On Juin 2006 its founder has been investigated because of illegal financial and real state operations, linked to terrorism. The accusations are denied by Dhaou Meskine once and again. “That has discredited all our action”, Youssef Riahl, who demands “positive discrimination from the State to prevent the institution from disappearing”.

* According to the Muslim calender, the year 1429 is 2008 in Gregorian calender.

So basically the place is not succesful, mainly because its founder was investigated on terrorism charges and now they want the taxpayer to pay for their unsuccesful business…
