Young Maghrebis booed “La Marsellaise” during a football match

with 2 comments

The Croydonian has the information with some comments:

Guys – or rather gals – booing anthems, teams etc is all part of the rough and tumble of the game, especially in France, and none of this action is going to persuade youth of Mahgrebi origin to join in the anthem with gusto, or even keep schtumm for five minutes.

It’s truly difficult to deal with this problem, mainly because young Maghrebis are not in the mood to pay respect to their home country, even when most of them have been already born in France.

“LittleBigPlanet” Game Derailed by Quran References

with one comment

In a somewhat similar issue to that over Wikipedia and pictures of the prophet Muhammad, Sony has delayed the hotly-anticipated PS3 game LittleBigPlanet due to the discovery of background music tracks containing two expressions found in the Quran.

(…) British game developer Media Molecule made the following statement:

We learnt yesterday that there is a lyric in one of the licensed tracks which some people may find offensive, and which slipped through the usual screening processes. Obviously MM and Sony together took this very seriously. LBP should be enjoyable by all.

Sony said the following:

During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused.

Talibans kill Christian aid worker because “she was spreading Christianity

with one comment

Taliban gunmen on a motorbike killed a Christian aid worker in the Afghan capital on Monday, and the militant group said it had targeted the woman because she was proselytizing.

The woman, a British national, worked with handicapped Afghans and was killed in the western part of Kabul as she was walking alone around 8 a.m., police said. Najib Samsoor, a district police chief, originally said the woman was from South Africa, but the British government later said she was British.

The gunmen shot the victim in the body and leg with a pistol, said Interior Ministry spokesman Zemeri Bashary. Officials did not release her name.

Zabiullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the slaying, saying the woman was killed because she was spreading Christianity.

Also two German soldiers have been killed by a blast in Afghanistan. And yesterday 30 people were killed after Talibans stopped a bus on a highway and took all the passengers hostage.

US Secretary of Defense actually asked for more troops, US even announced they were going to rely more on Afghanistan tribal militias. But other Governments (and countries) are not very interested. It’s interesting to see the lack of publicity (and of blaming) Afghanistan gets. If this would be Iraq we would have all MSM 24 hours a day, blaming the US about the lack of progress. As this is an international coalition sanctioned by UN, no one blames UN for the disaster.

US to host global finance summit

without comments

Speaking before talks at Camp David with Nicolas Sarkozy and Jose Manuel Barroso, George W Bush said it was “essential that we work together”.

The first summit will be held in the US after November’s presidential election.

The Europeans want the meetings to pave the way for talks on an overhaul of the world’s financial regulatory systems.

Before he arrived at Camp David, the presidential retreat in the state of Maryland, Mr Sarkozy warned the world could not “continue to run the economy of the 21st Century with instruments of the economy of the 20th Century”.
