“In Spain there is much more violence against women than in Islamic countries”

La Junta Islámica: “En España hay más violencia de género que en los países islámicos” – Libertad Digital – Sociedad:

In an act about “The role of women in Civilizations Allianca, the Minister of Equality, Bibiana Aído, surprised everyone with some very sensible statements, very far from Zapatero’s relativism, to critisize Islamic women who are obliged to wear “long dresses and hijabs” while men are dressing Western-style. Islamic Council, who asked to vote for PSOE in last elections, has answered very harshly to Ms. Aído, just the same it ever reacts each time someone critisizes Islam. Mansur Escudero has stated that the “violence against women is higher in Spain than in Islamic countries”.

Does Mansur Escudero agree with a Malaysian town who has “recommended” women to avoid lipstick and high heels in order to avoid rape? Can Mansur Escudero show an Islamic country where the statistics on violence against women are reliable and where abused women can sue or divorce without any problems from an abusive husband? I guess not.
