Spain: OK to Chávez’s purchase of Bank of Venezuela IF a “fair price” is paid

Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Pedro Solbes said on Monday that the purchase of the Venezuelan branch of Spanish Banco Santander Central Hispano banking group by the Venezuelan government does not imply “a major problem,” provided that a “fair price” is paid.

If the government of President Hugo Chávez does not pay an acceptable price, the Minister of the Economy said in an interview with the Spanish public radio, “it would be totally unacceptable,” Efe reported.

Solbes is confident that an agreement will be reached between both parties because, on the contrary, the process would become an expropriation for purposes of nationalization.
