Spain: II Islamic Congress finishes in Melilla

Alí Mesnaoui, (…) explained, in his conference “Science’ basis in Islam”, that this religion “socialised science”. In fact, he informed that science, who had always been a priviledge for aristocrats and priests, transformed into something common for all people [thanks to Islam] (?). Islam reached everyone after the contact with civilizations such as Greek, Indian or Chinese ones.

Surely science reached everyone with Islam: that’s why Islamic societies are so advanced… 😦

Malaysia: ‘Religious department to act against any blogger who insults Islam’

with 2 comments

PUTRAJAYA: The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will take stern action against bloggers who insult Islam, including non-Muslims.

Its director-general Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz said the department could act against irresponsible bloggers, regardless of their religious background.

“Right now, the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission are still trying to trace the blogger said to have insulted Prophet Muhammad.

“We will come in once the culprit is found,” he said.

Wan Mohamad also said there were bound to be “extremists” among religious followers or leaders in view of the country’s multi-ethnicity.

How sweet!!

First Muslim-friendly virtual world goes online (AFP) by AFP: Yahoo! Tech

A trial version of the world’s first Muslim-friendly virtual world was launched Tuesday, where users can create an online persona, design their own rooms, buy virtual items and interact with others.

Called Muxlim Pal and created by the Finnish-based company Muxlim.com, the English-language site caters primarily to Muslims living in western countries who long to reconnect with other Muslims and Muslim culture.

“Muxlim Pal is just another channel for our users to socialise, have fun and express themselves using social media in a safe and friendly atmosphere,” Muxlim chief executive Mohamed El-Fatatry, 23, told AFP.

On Muxlim Pal, which is free of charge to join, users can shop for clothes for their avatar at the mall, hang out at the beach cafe, pray at the mosque or go to concerts.

What makes Muxlim Pal different from other popular websites such as Second Life is that content portraying violence, drugs, sexual references or profanity is not allowed.

Not even Jihad content?

The Guardian’s partiality

leave a comment »

More than 200 people have been killed in two days of clashes between Christians and Muslims in central Nigeria, the Red Cross said yesterday, during the worst unrest in the country for years. The army sent reinforcements to enforce a 24-hour curfew in the city of Jos, which lies at the flashpoint where Nigeria’s Muslim north and Christian south meet, after rival gangs set fire to churches and mosques.
‘I counted 218 dead bodies at Masalaci Jummaa [mosque]. There are many other bodies in the streets,’ said a Red Cross official, who asked not to be named. That death toll did not include hospital mortuaries, victims already buried, or those taken to other places of worship. The final count could be much higher, officials said.About 7,000 people had fled their homes and were sheltering in government buildings and religious centres, the Red Cross said.

Hundreds dead after Christian and Muslim gangs clash in Nigeria | World news | The Observer

If you read the rest of the link, they don’t even know how many Christians have been killed, while they know exactly the number of murdered Muslims. If you see, The Guardian publishes this, in which both Muslims and Christians have been fighting, but have not published anything about the Virgin Mary’s Church in Cairo. A very interesting choice of news, isn’t it?

Malaysia backs down from yoga ban amid backlash: Scientific American

with one comment

Malaysia’s prime minister said Wednesday Muslims should still take up yoga, reversing an outright ban that has drawn widespread protests amid concerns over growing Islamic fundamentalism in the multiracial nation.
Malaysia’s National Fatwa Council, comprising Islamic scholars, told Muslims at the weekend to avoid yoga because it uses Hindu prayers that could erode Muslims’ faith.
But the decision drew a sharp rebuke from many Muslims and even Malaysia’s sultans, or hereditary rulers, who said that they should be consulted on any matters involving Islam.
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi moved to contain the damage, telling the national news agency Bernama that Muslims could carry on doing yoga but minus the chanting.
“I wish to state that a physical regime with no elements of worship can continue, meaning, it is not banned. I believe that Muslims are not easily swayed into polytheism,” he said.

The Amboy Times: Michael Jackson converts to Islam

Pop singer Michael Jackson has converted to Islam and changed his name to Mikaeel.

The 50-year-old star pledged his allegiance to the Koran in a ceremony at a friend’s mansion in Los Angeles, the Sun reported.

Jackson sat on the floor wearing a tiny hat after an Imam was summoned to officiate — days before the singer is due to appear at London’s High Court where he is being sued by an Arab Sheikh, the paper said.

Just go over to The Amboy Times and read it all… Lord, this man is even more foolish than I thought… Or not?

Magdi Allam Tells the Pope That Islam is a Religion of war

with 3 comments

Allam told Pope Benedict he specifically objected to Cardinal Tauran telling a conference in August that Islam itself promotes peace but that “‘some believers’ have ‘betrayed their faith,'” using it as a pretext for violence.

“The objective reality, I tell you with all sincerity and animated by a constructive intent, is exactly the opposite of what Cardinal Tauran imagines,” Allam told the pope. “Islamic extremism and terrorism are the mature fruit” of following “the sayings of the Quran and the thought and action of Mohammed.”

via Islam In Action: Ex-Muslim Tells the Pope That Islam is a Religion of war

This is something really dangerous and interesting. If someone as peaceful, as rational and as cultivated as this man, considers that Islam is a Religion of War, we should think about it for a minute… carefully.
